    Rev. Josh's life journey has exposed him to a wide spectrum of thought, compelling him to create spaces of greater unity among diversity. He has served as an Associate Pastor in the Assemblies of God & United Methodist Church, as Youth Director in the American Baptist Church, as Senior Pastor at an Independent Christian Church, and as a Co-Pastor of an Inter-denominational Church in Illinois and in Brooklyn. Throughout his career and education, he has lived at the intersectionality of both the Christian and LGBTQIA+ communities, instilling him with empathy to love God and people without exception. Josh earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies from Moody Bible Institute and his Master of Divinity from Garrett Theological Seminary.

    Mary joined Boise First in 2020. She has over 20 years experience in communications and nonprofit development. She is the go-to administrator of Boise First. She manages our building, communications, scheduling and much more!~

    Outside of the church, she enjoys being with her son Marcus, spending time with her family and friends, and is always searching for amazing finds at thrift and antique shops and watching The Great British Bake-Off.

    As part of Laura’s pastoral internship she chairs the Care Team at Boise First, supporting members pastorally and practically. She also leads the Tuesday Evening Contemplative Service and assists with Sunday Worship including the Social Hour after church.  

     Last year, Laura served as a Resident Chaplain at St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center and Home Hospice.  She recently earned a Master of Divinity degree in Interreligious Chaplaincy from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and also holds a Master of Education from UC Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Creative Writing and Literature from UC San Diego. 

    Prior to attending seminary, Laura served as an Idaho educator for thirty years, teaching at the high school and college level and eventually serving as Dean of Arts and Humanities at the College of Western Idaho.

    Julie joined us as Children & Youth Pastor in January 2026 after 14 years of lay ministry at Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship and prior service in Episcopal and Nazarene youth ministries. Her faith journey includes ecumenical and interfaith experiences, community organizing, and faith-based social justice work, which led her to seminary.

    Julie is currently a student at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, completing a Graduate Certificate in Peace Studies in May 2026. She holds a BA in Youth Ministry from Northwest Nazarene University and is excited to return to vocational ministry and serve BUCC. She is the mom of four—two school-aged daughters and two adult sons—and enjoys the Idaho outdoors, community life, and the local arts scene.

Music Staff

  • David is currently on the faculty of Boise High School, and previously taught for six years at Caldwell High School, and one year at Sedway Middle School in Las Vegas.  His Bachelor of Music Education is from Idaho State University, and he is an active member of The American Choral Directors Association, The National Association for Music Education, The Idaho Music Educations Association, and Golden Key International Honour Society.  David was named the Teacher of the Year for both Caldwell High School and the Caldwell School District for the 2012-13 school year, and was nominated and selected as one of twelve Choral Directors of Note in the January/February 2014 issue of Choral Director magazine.  Along with his experience with traditional choral repertoire, David has great interest in ethnic/world music.  

  • Becca serves as the church musican and worship coordinator at Boise First. In addition she is the Collaborative Pianist for Boise Women’s Chorus, Boise Gay Men’s Chorus and many school choirs throughout the Treasure Valley. She frequently accompanies the Idaho Junior High and High School All-State Honor Choirs. Becca is also often the adjudicator for several piano festivals throughout Southern Idaho. She  graduated with her Associates Degree of Music at the College of Southern Idaho and her Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance from Boise State University. Her freshman year she received the awards, “Music Student” and “Choir Student of the Year”. When she is not making music she enjoys playing ping-pong with her two sons, growing flowers in her yard and enjoying the mountains with her husband. 

  • Paula Weitemier joined the Tintinnabulators in 1984 under Lori Conlon and became their Director in 2000, following Bonnie Dufty. Under her leadership, the choir has expanded from 3 to 5 octaves. Paula and the choir attend Handbell Musicians of America workshops, and she has studied bell directing with renowned conductors like William Payn and David Weck. In 2005, she led a mass bell choir for Boise Music Week's Church Night. The Tintinnabulators also recorded a segment for the movie Paradise (2013), though it was cut from the final version.

    Paula, a Licensed Professional Counselor, began music at age 5, playing piano, clarinet, and joining her school band. She has sung with The Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale since 1987 and studied piano with Patricia Nelson and voice with Linda Berg. Paula and her husband, Ken, have four children, all handbell players, and three grandsons. Active members of Boise First since 1978.

Support Staff

  • Frosty started attending Boise First in June of 2025 and immediately felt at home. Finding a supportive, spiritual, space, Frosty is excited to expand their ministerial knowledge. Finishing their degree at Boise State in Film & Television Arts, they have created the Boise First Podcast. They hope to be able to use the storytelling skills they have studied from school to further our inclusive and progressive christian message. Frosty has a deep passion for helping others, and with a Nonprofit Management Minor, is excited to learn more about how a church works in the Nonprofit sector. With a connection to the queer community, Frosty is thrilled to be part of a queer affirming space and can’t wait to help the church’s mission of LGBTQ+ advocacy.

  • Ana Chavez is a Nursery Attendant born and raised in Caldwell, Idaho. She is CPR certified, bilingual, and bicultural. Ana has worked at Intermountain Fair Housing since 2015. She is a critical thinker, problem solver, and strong communicator who values her health, family, and animals. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, painting, baking cookies, and solving puzzles.
